(= UALAQ) on Thursday posted a quarterly loss like other big airlines as hig= h jet fuel prices pinched the bottom line. UAL, which filed for bankruptcy protection in December 2002, said its net= loss was $459 million, or $4.17 per basic share, including reorganizatio= n and special items. Average fuel price for the quarter was $1.07 per gal= lon. UAL, based in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, said its first-quarter operati= ng loss was $211 million, compared with an operating loss of $813 million= in the year-ago period. Revenue rose 17 percent to $3.73 billion, while total operating expenses = fell 1.4 percent to $3.94 billion. UAL also said it posted a small operating profit for March.
