The British magazine Flight International has been spreading the word
for a while that FedEx was about to decide on acquiring freighter
conversions of Boeing 737-300/400s. US would be as good a source as any.
The aircraft are intended to replace 727s from the bottom end, with the
Airbus fleet taking over from the top end.

Interestingly, FedEx has owned a handful of 737s in the past,
intended for carrying passengers by day and cargo by night. Wisely,
FedEx retraced their steps before the aircraft were even delivered, and
quickly sold them.
