As I understand the news story, he was charged with "disregard to
authority" with a potential jail time of 6-12 months.
The other 11 crew members were quarantined and sent back on the 1st AA
flight. Allegedly the actions of the pilot started a chain reaction in
attitude by the other crewmembers.

The captain wasn't too smart, and the Brazilians were just out to prove they
could be even stupider.  If he did that in some U.S. airports he might find
himself in Guantanomo.   I sure wouldn't do it.
