Later Thursday, Northwest Airlines said it was adding four new daily flights to Los Angeles from Denver and its Minneapolis-St. Paul hub. Service will begin on those routes April 4. The Los Angeles-Denver service is new, while the flights from the Twin Cities add to Northwest's existing flights on that route. The move comes as Denver-based Frontier ahead with expansion plans to nearly double its fleet and work force at Denver International Airport by 2008. The airline will begin offering flights from Los Angeles International Airport to Kansas City, St. Louis and Minneapolis/St. Paul. There will not be crews or maintenance operations based in Los Angeles, spokesman Joe Hodas said. The two daily non-stops from Los Angeles to each of the three cities will begin April 11. Until now, Frontier passengers had to fly from Los Angeles to Denver to make a connecting flight. The new flights will ease crowding on those flights, Hodas said. Frontier also plans to begin service between Denver and Washington Dulles International Airport, El Paso, Texas, and Anchorage, Alaska. Service to Washington will begin April 11 and seasonal service to Anchorage will begin May 9. The El Paso flight will replace a flight that currently goes from Denver to El Paso via Albuquerque, N.M. It will begin Feb. 8. Frontier has about 3,800 employees with service to 37 cities in the United States and four in Mexico. It expects to have 62 aircraft and 6,000 employees by 2008. Shares of Frontier surged nearly 10 percent Thursday, closing up $1.28 at $14.68 on the Nasdaq Stock Market. ------ On the Net: http://www.frontierairlines.com http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/business/AP-Frontier-Expansion.html?ex=1072844463&ei=1&en=cafc9ff5146e8f75 --------------------------------- Get Home Delivery of The New York Times Newspaper.
