Um as far as the Coke/Pepsi thing goes, I am much more virulant about that
than Airbus vs. Boeing.
JFK-SIN is 8287 NM, so that is within the Airbus stated range. The one thing
though (and I am not trying to set off a debate) is that Airbus seems to over
state the PAX numbers in their aircraft claims. They were calling the A346 a
380 seat aircraft, even though most airlines are doing more like 330, and it
is the same with the other A340s.
As an aside, it would be interesting to see the range of the proposed 747
with 7E7 engines that Cathay and others seem to be begging Boeing to build.
Perhaps a 9000NM jumbo?
