Pilot Controller Glossary

List no definituion of tarmac.  It refers ramp to apron.

APRON- A defined area on an airport or heliport intended to accommodate
aircraft for purposes of loading or unloading passengers or cargo,
refueling, parking, or maintenance. With regard to seaplanes, a ramp is used
for access to the apron from the water.

APRON [ICAO]- A defined area, on a land aerodrome, intended to accommodate
aircraft for purposes of loading or unloading passengers, mail or cargo,
refueling, parking or maintenance.



MOVEMENT AREA- The runways, taxiways, and other areas of an airport/heliport
which are utilized for taxiing/hover taxiing, air taxiing, takeoff, and
landing of aircraft, exclusive of loading ramps and parking areas. At those
airports/heliports with a tower, specific approval for entry onto the
movement area must be obtained from ATC.

MOVEMENT AREA [ICAO]- That part of an aerodrome to be used for the takeoff,
landing and taxiing of aircraft, consisting of the maneuvering area and the
apron(s).
