Over the Thanksgiving weekend I caught Clark Howard's syndicated radio talk show and heard him wondering when one of the big six "mainline" carriers was going to dump their business model and start serving the customer. Aint gonna happen as too many employees (union and non-union) have a vested interested in maintaining the status quo. And even if you could smack 'em upside the head and change the model, you'd never be able to change the mentalility with the same employees. There is a reason why dinosaurs are no longer roaming the earth. Upstarts like JetBlue and AirTran have succeeded simply because they could quickly and easily think outside the box. And how ironic that even Clark Howard does not perceive Southwest to be a "mainline" carrier, even though it has been for some time. LUV was born in a rather hostile atmosphere with everyone against them. A fact never forgotten by management and constantly preached to employees. RT Simpson Phoenix
