A Boeing 747 jumbo jet carrying 430 people has made an emergency landing at
Cork airport in the Republic of Ireland. The KLM jet - en route from Queen
Beatrix International Airport on the Dutch-owned Carribean holiday resort of Aruba
to Amsterdam - was 250 miles off the west coast of Ireland when an emergency
was declared.

It is understood that it was decided to make an emergency landing at the
nearest airport after a fire warning indicator came on in the cockpit.

Emergency services were put on alert but the plane landed safely just after
1000 BST and no fire was detected on board.

Nobody was injured in the incident and passengers were expected to resume
their journey on the same plane within three to four hours.

A spokesman for Ireland's airport operator Aer Rianta said: "The plane has
landed safely and all the passengers are being disembarked. There was some kind
of fire warning on board."
