AirTran airliner catches fire at Boston airport = = = = Wednesday October 1, 1:28 PM EDT = BOSTON, Oct 1 (Reuters) - Passengers evacuated an AirTran Airways jet via= emergency slides at Boston's Logan International Airport on Wednesday af= ter one of the plane's engines spat flames as the pilot was preparing to = take off. One man suffered a strained back in the incident aboard the AirTran Airwa= ys (AAI) Boeing 717, which was carrying 27 passengers and five crew, said= Massachusetts Port Authority spokesman Phil Orlandella. "When the pilot pushed back from the gate there were flames coming out of= the right engine," he said. Ground personnel alerted the pilot to the flames in one of the airplane's= tail-mounted engines. The pilot activated systems to extinguish the blaze and then ordered the = deployment of the emergency slides to evacuate the passengers, he said.
