British Airways resuming direct service to Pakistan

   (09-24) 04:46 PDT LONDON (AP) --
British Airways will resume direct flights to Pakistan more than two yea=
rs
after suspending the service in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist
attacks, the airline said Wednesday.
BA planned three round trips per week from London to the Pakistani
capital, Islamabad. The service, which had stopped Sept. 12, 2001, will
resume Dec. 1.
Geoff Want, British Airways' director of safety and security, said the
airline had determined it was safe to resume flights after a review of
security measures at the Islamabad airport.
"Since our flights were suspended our team of security experts has worked
closely with the Pakistan authorities and the British government to keep
the situation under close review," he said. "A number of additional,
robust and sustainable security measures have been introduced."
