There is a good book out there written by a retired AA captain who flew
AA60/61 on the SP's.
There is a good chapter in wich he mentions his constant problems with
dispatch over underfuelled flights in favor of payload. Distance to alternate Haneda
was calculated as 36mi, but he found out through ANA that the actual distance
was 112miles. And considering that Narita was always busy, his relations with
dispach were not rosy. One example had him with fuel Over destination of
11000lb. And he mentions that a SP burns 12000lbs of fuel on a go around. OUCH!
