Unions applaud merger By Judy Kanhai Guardian 06.24.03 While BWIA workers' union are satisfied with a possible move to merge Liat and BWIA creating one major airline, they are upset at having been excluded from the discussions. Christopher Abraham, president of the Aviation Communications and Workers Union (ACAWU) said the union's main concern was that they were not being included in the plans for a merger. "We don't have a problem with a merger but our concern is exclusion and lack of information," Abraham said. At a news conference on Sunday at the Central Bank, Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines Ralph Gonsalves announced that Caribbean Airlines (Holding) Ltd would be incorporated in T&T within the next two weeks. The holding company will be formed in preparation for the reorganisation of the two major airlines in the Eastern Caribbean. Gonsalves said while the holding company would be subject to approval from the Registrar of Companies, it may result in a possible merger between Liat and BWIA. Jagdeo Jagroop, president of the Communications and Transport Trade Union (CATTU) said the unions should have already been contacted. "That is disappointing," Jagroop said. He said CATTU was concerned about the treatment of the airlines' debts. *************************************************** The owner of Roger's Trinbago Site/TnTisland.com Roj (Roger James) escape email mailto:ejames@xxxxxxxxx Trinbago site: www.tntisland.com Carib Brass Ctn site www.tntisland.com/caribbeanbrassconnection/ Steel Expressions www.mts.net/~ejames/se/ Mas Site: www.tntisland.com/tntrecords/mas2003/ Site of the Week: http://www.carib-link.net/naparima/naps.html TnT Webdirectory: http://search.co.tt *********************************************************
