About $611,000 plus late fees was imposed because Delta incorrectly reported that 1,024 landings were by 727 aircraft instead of by the company's newer and heavier 767-400 aircraft. The airport charges landing fees based on weight, and the 767-400 weighs 350,000 pounds, compared with the 727's 154,500 pounds, said the city audit, which covered fiscal years 2000-01 and 2001-02. In addition, auditors from the city controller's office found the company did not report 36 landings on its monthly reports, for which the controller says the airport should get $24,214 plus late fees Delta spokesman Anthony Black said the company had disclosed the underpayments to the airport before it was discovered by city auditors. Delta is now trying to negotiate lower late fees, Black said. Audit manager Elisa Sullivan said airport officials could find no record of the company's ever notifying them of underpayments.
