It goes down to the choice of registry between a lessor (ILFC for their 777, GECAS for their 767, and Airbus Asset Mgmt or Polaris for their A310) and a lessee (Aeroflot in your case). Registering in Russia requires full certification by the Russian Civil Avn Authorities, bring complications because of the very heavy import tax for foreign aircraft into Russia, and is not favoured by lessors should the aircraft have to be re-possessed. Registering in the US would add FAA burden on Aeroflot maintenance procedures.
