Three U.S. airlines set to begin alliance

CHICAGO (Reuters) =97 Three major U.S. airlines said Thursday that travelers=
=20
will be able to start earning reciprocal frequent flier miles on June 18=20
under a previously announced marketing alliance that allows the carriers to=
=20
sell seats on each others' flights. Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines=20
and Northwest Airlines said members of their airport lounge programs also=20
will have access to each other's clubs starting next week under their=20
so-called codeshare agreement. The three airlines agreed to the marketing=20
deal last summer, and the federal government approved it in late March=20
after the airlines answered government concerns about competition. When the=
=20
deal was approved in March, industry experts estimated that it could bring=
=20
each airline about $200 million in annual revenue if travel demand rebounds=
=20
from a historic downturn.
