Judge sentences former screener for false report at Reno airport RENO, Nev. (AP) =97 A former airport screener who concocted a story about a= =20 security breach to cover up her drinking on the job was sentenced to two=20 years of probation Thursday. U.S. District Court Judge David Hagen=20 sentenced Cheryl Shears to probation and ordered her to pay a $100 fee to=20 cover court costs after she pleaded guilty to making a false official=20 statement. On Nov. 16, 2001, officials shut down half of the Reno-Tahoe=20 International Airport after Shears claimed she confiscated a 3-inch knife=20 from a man who then took it back and threatened her with a gun. The closure= =20 caused a dozen flights to be delayed and at least 300 travelers to=20 evacuate.
