While this is true, the actual airport surface area at the time made it the largest airport in the world, in terms of property size (acreage). The buffer zone was (is) huge. It was a huge controversy at the time because some of Quebec's prime farmland was expropriated to build the airport, far far more than was operationally required. Then what was left around it was zoned industrial so that at least housing couldn't get too close.
