Air Force fighter jet crashes in North Carolina FOUR OAKS, N.C. (AP) =97 An Air Force fighter jet crashed in a forest=20 Wednesday afternoon, but both crew members ejected safely, authorities=20 said. The F-15E Strike Eagle from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base struck=20 the ground and caught fire after the fliers escaped, county Sheriff Steve=20 Bizzell said. One crew member suffered leg and other injuries, Bizzell=20 said. One flier's parachute snagged in a tree, leaving him about 30 feet=20 off the ground before he was rescued, Bizzell said. The Air Force base in= =20 Goldsboro, about 60 miles southeast of Raleigh, said both crew members were= =20 in good condition. The jet crashed about 25 miles west of the base. The=20 crash site was not near any homes or other buildings, and no injuries were= =20 reported on the ground. The fire was under control, Bizzell said. Samuel=20 Grissom, 13, was helping his father put a roof on his uncle's house when=20 they saw the plane going down. "I saw it was coming down from the clouds.= =20 And it was doing, like, 25 spirals," Samuel said. "It just went behind the= =20 trees. And there was an explosion, black smoke everywhere." The F-15E=20 Strike Eagle primarily serves as an air-to-ground attack aircraft,=20 according to the Air Force.
