Report: Hundreds of LAX screeners fired for poor performance LOS ANGELES (AP) =97 Hundreds of airport screeners at Los Angeles=20 International Airport have been fired for poor performance, according to=20 sources cited Wednesday by the Daily Breeze of Torrance, Calif. The workers= =20 were let go for poor performance and failure to show up for work, the=20 newspaper reported. The Daily Breeze, citing an airport worker who attended= =20 a recent briefing held by a Transportation Security Administration=20 supervisor, also said 100 more workers will soon be fired. The 360 workers= =20 represent about 13% of the airport's authorized work force of 2,695=20 passenger and baggage screeners. Airport representatives and airline=20 employees said the reductions have not caused delays for passengers, adding= =20 that screening times have remained below the TSA's 10-minute goal. "It=20 isn't (a problem) now, it could be if (passenger) loads come back," said=20 Paul Haney, the airport's deputy executive director of communications. The= =20 firings are not related to additional background checks the airport is=20 performing on all its screeners, the newspaper reported. The TSA agreed to= =20 allow Los Angeles International to perform a new round of checks following= =20 revelations that some screeners had criminal records. *************************************************** The owner of Roger's Trinbago Site/TnTisland.com Roj (Roger James) escape email mailto:ejames@xxxxxxxxx Trinbago site: www.tntisland.com Carib Brass Ctn site www.tntisland.com/caribbeanbrassconnection/ Steel Expressions www.mts.net/~ejames/se/ Mas Site: www.tntisland.com/tntrecords/mas2003/ Site of the Week: http://www.natalielaughlin.com/ TnT Webdirectory: http://search.co.tt *********************************************************
