Indigo Airlines drops Teterboro flights NEWARK, N.J. (AP) =97 Indigo Airlines has dropped flights from Teterboro=20 Airport, three months after beginning flights that some lawmakers said=20 violated the airport's ban on scheduled service. Indigo's Web site bore a=20 statement saying that it had suspended "regular and frequent public charter= =20 service" between Teterboro and Chicago's Midway airports. "Indigo is=20 currently reorganizing its finances and operations and hopes to resume=20 service in the future," it said. A message seeking comment from Indigo at=20 its base in Chicago was not immediately returned Tuesday. "They've ceased=20 any regular operations out of Teterboro," said Lanny Rider, manager of the= =20 airport in Teterboro, Bergen County. He said he did not know whether the=20 carrier planned to resume any flights. Rep. Steve Rothman, D-Fair Lawn,=20 said, "Stopping Indigo's scheduled service operation at Teterboro and=20 preventing other copycat air traffic to Teterboro from other parts of the=20 country is critical to improving homeland security in Northern New Jersey=20 and to ensuring that the character of Teterboro Airport does not change."=20 At Rothman's request in March, the Transportation Security Administration=20 sent a team to Teterboro to evaluate the security measures of Indigo, which= =20 ran daily flights to Chicago. Rothman had also asked the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which= =20 owns and operates Teterboro Airport, to ban the Indigo flights. Port=20 Authority spokesman Tony Ciavolello said Indigo had no takeoffs or landings= =20 at Teterboro on Friday, Monday or Tuesday. "We continue to monitor their=20 aircraft movements, and we continue to oppose scheduled service at=20 Teterboro Airport," he said. Indigo had maintained that its Teterboro=20 flights were charter flights that were open to the public, and that it=20 complied with all federal, state, and Port Authority regulations. Indigo=20 also provided private charter service and corporate shuttle service. It=20 said it was not required to screen passengers or baggage because it is=20 technically not a commercial airline and its jets are small. The charter=20 used metal detectors, cross-checked passenger names with a terrorist watch= =20 list, and reserved the right to inspect bags. *************************************************** The owner of Roger's Trinbago Site/TnTisland.com Roj (Roger James) escape email mailto:ejames@xxxxxxxxx Trinbago site: www.tntisland.com Carib Brass Ctn site www.tntisland.com/caribbeanbrassconnection/ Steel Expressions www.mts.net/~ejames/se/ Mas Site: www.tntisland.com/tntrecords/mas2003/ Site of the Week: http://www.natalielaughlin.com/ TnT Webdirectory: http://search.co.tt *********************************************************
