Hopes ride on Florida air link

Despite prices which could top $600 and Saturday-only flights, US Airways hope their summer link to Florida can keep going after its trial run.
The flight will start on June 14 and will run to August 30.

Asked about the prices US Airways District Sales Manager Michael Pewther said: "Pricing is competitive with other carriers. We are not out of line on our pricing.

"But because I need to make this work and sustain itself and keep it year-round, if it's popular, pricing is going to have to be addressed and it will be."

"Pricing is a very complex issue because this flight is non-stop and on Saturdays only. We are coming up with some type of incentive in the way of reduced pricing. I don't have anything concrete yet."

And he said people could fly via another US city if they didn't want to stay a week. " It doesn't mean someone has to be limited to a seven-day stay. We also have service through Charlotte, Philadelphia and Washington."

Louisville Works Hard

Louisville, Ky., Station Manager Greg Bunten would like to commend the station staff, both inside and outside, for their outstanding performance in handling large numbers of passengers through the Louisville airport during the Kentucky Derby festivities last weekend. On an average day, US Airways moves about 400 passengers in Louisville, but the employees hustled to handle much heavier traffic following the race on Saturday evening, with 1,556 passengers on Sunday and 969 on Monday.

The Louisville airport employs 24 US Airways Mainline Express Customer Service employees inside and 25 PSA ramp employees. Special thanks goes to US Airways employees Warren Dupree from Columbus; Sharon Hipsher from Kansas City; and Robert Mitchell from Cleveland, for their assistance in volunteering to help during the busy travel weekend. Three station managers were also on hand to help answer passenger questions and direct traffic inside the airport. As a thank you for the great job, Greg will host an Employee Appreciation Cookout Day next weekend and has promised to "flip burgers" until everyone has had their fill.

Sealy Spokesperson Offers Sleep Tips To US Airways Passengers

Getting a good night's sleep is a challenge travelers face frequently, but Sealy's sleep wellness spokesperson is working to educate airline passengers this spring that quality sleep away from home can be achieved. Dot Richardson, M.D., orthopedic surgeon and medical director of the USA Triathlon National Training Center in Clermont, FL, was recently interviewed on the importance of getting a good night's sleep away from home. Her radio interview will air on all US Airways flights in May and June and on all Northwest Airlines flights in May.
