Raleigh-Durham likely to scale back expansion plans MORRISVILLE, N.C. (AP) =97 Raleigh-Durham International Airport likely will= =20 scale back the expansion and renovation of one of its terminals, citing=20 uncertainty within the airline industry. Airport officials had first=20 planned to spend $500 million by the end of the decade to renovate Terminal= =20 C, which used to be an American Airlines hub, into a state-of-the-art=20 terminal. Airport Director John Brantley said the cost was too high for the= =20 airport to handle at once. Instead, the airport authority may approve a=20 $350 million expansion in part to keep the cost of doing business for=20 airlines low at RDU. Travelers should still see an expanded and improved=20 ticketing hall, baggage claim and screening area and security checkpoint=20 within the next three or four years. But plans to add 12 gates to the=20 25-gate concourse and renovate the concourse might be delayed. RDU=20 officials told authority members Thursday that completing the work at once= =20 and incurring great debt eventually might lead airlines to rethink plans to= =20 expand service or even cut flights. Airport officials said they need to=20 upgrade the terminal to handle an expected rise in travel and make the=20 terminal more suitable for passengers. The source of funding likely will=20 come through a combination of revenue bonds, grants and passenger boarding= =20 fees. *************************************************** The owner of Roger's Trinbago Site/TnTisland.com Roj (Roger James) escape email mailto:ejames@xxxxxxxxx Trinbago site: www.tntisland.com Carib Brass Ctn site www.tntisland.com/caribbeanbrassconnection/ Steel Expressions www.mts.net/~ejames/se/ Mas Site: www.tntisland.com/tntrecords/mas2003/ Site of the Week: http://www.caribbeanfloral.com TnT Webdirectory: http://search.co.tt *********************************************************
