Naples airport officials will keep commercial terminal open US Airways Express announced earlier this week that it will end its=20 schedule of six flights =97 three inbound, three outbound =97 between Tampa= and=20 Naples on June 14, at which time the Naples facility will house no=20 commercial carriers. "The potential loss of US Airways is obviously very troublesome," said=20 Peter Manion, a member of the Naples Airport Authority. "This is certainly= =20 not going in the right direction. It is extremely disappointing to me."=20 Members of the airport authority plan to ask US Airways to reconsider the=20 decision, which a company spokesman said was financially driven. Another reason the terminal will remain open is because several auto-rental= =20 companies, including Hertz, Avis, National and Dollar, all have in-terminal= =20 space leased through the authority. "The last time we lost a carrier, their= =20 business increased, which caught us all by surprise," said Ted Soliday, the= =20 executive director of Naples Airport Authority. "At the present time, I=20 don't see any reason for us to consider shutting down the terminal."=20 Several board members said the problem at Naples airport reflects the slump= =20 in the overall aviation industry. The facility has also been hurt by=20 continued growth at the Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort=20 Myers, about 35 miles north of Naples. *************************************************** The owner of Roger's Trinbago Site/TnTisland.com Roj (Roger James) escape email mailto:ejames@xxxxxxxxx Trinbago site: www.tntisland.com Carib Brass Ctn site www.tntisland.com/caribbeanbrassconnection/ Steel Expressions www.mts.net/~ejames/se/ Site of the Week: http://www.cso.gov.tt TnT Webdirectory: http://search.co.tt *********************************************************
