Pittsburgh airport considering fee hike to keep US Airways PITTSBURGH (AP) =97 Travelers at Pittsburgh International Airport may be=20 asked to pay a higher passenger fee to help pay for improvements designed=20 to keep US Airways at the airport. The Allegheny County Airport Authority=20 is considering hiking the $3 fee it charges each passenger to $4.50 to=20 offset improvements at the airport, requested by US Airways' to keep its=20 hub there. The Federal Aviation Administration also would have to approve=20 the hike, said Kent George, the airport's executive director. The airport=20 collects about $24 million in passenger fees a year. The hike would garner= =20 another $12 million. The Arlington, Va.-based airline is seeking $155=20 million in airport improvements or it may not base its new MidAtlantic=20 Airways regional jet subsidiary in Pittsburgh. Airport officials have=20 selected about $70 million among the improvements US Airways wants that=20 could be used by other airlines should US Airways leave.
