Northwest adding nonstop flights from Milwaukee to major cities MILWAUKEE (AP) =97 Northwest Airlines will soon offer six new nonstop= flights=20 from Milwaukee in a move that industry analysts say could put some pressure= =20 on financially struggling Midwest Airlines. The new routes Northwest=20 announced Monday will be from Milwaukee to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New=20 York, Boston, Orlando, Fla., and Washington, D.C., some of the most popular= =20 destinations from the state's largest city. The Eagan, Minn., -based=20 airline started a fare sale Monday and is offering bonus frequent-flyer=20 miles to promote the new flights, which start in July. The company=20 evaluated all competition at Mitchell International Airport, not just=20 Midwest, before adding the routes, said Jim Cron, vice president of=20 marketing for Northwest. Milwaukee-based Midwest is trying to avoid bankruptcy by renegotiating=20 terms with its creditors and the companies from which it leases aircraft.=20 Its parent company, Midwest Express Holdings, reported a first-quarter loss= =20 of $11.8 million. It also recently reduced its work force and cut wages.=20 Northwest's decision to add the nonstop flights is a fairly low-risk way to= =20 increase revenue for a company that has struggled recently, said Robert=20 Mann, an airline industry analyst and consultant with R.W. Mann & Co. in=20 Port Washington, N.Y. Northwest has airplanes and employees available for=20 the new flights, keeping the cost of capital improvements low, he said. *************************************************** The owner of Roger's Trinbago Site/TnTisland.com Roj (Roger James) escape email mailto:ejames@xxxxxxxxx Trinbago site: www.tntisland.com Carib Brass Ctn site www.tntisland.com/caribbeanbrassconnection/ Steel Expressions www.mts.net/~ejames/se/ Site of the Week: http://www.cso.gov.tt TnT Webdirectory: http://search.co.tt *********************************************************
