Not necessarily.  Captain Mike Bannister, BA's Chief Pilot of the short haul
fleet (which the Concorde is part of), went from the VC-10 to the Concorde.
Here's his resume:
1969 VC-10 pilot and navigator
1977  Concorde co-pilot (at age 28, the youngest co-pilot thus far)
1989 Assistant training manager, BAC 1-11 fleet
        Flight Crew Manager, BAC 1-11/A320 fleet
        757/767 pilot (no dates given for the last two positions)
1995 Chief pilot, Concord
2002 Chief pilot, Short Haul (A319/B737/B757/B767/Concorde)
