I'm not sure, but I think one can walk all the way to the BART terminal at SFO. From my rides into SFO from SF, it looks like the BART line goes almost to the new International terminal, and a map at www.flysfo.com seems consistent with this, showing a BART station in Garage G, just outside the international terminal. >Could you board a train at SFO and get off at or near Fishermans Wharf? The prototypical tourist might then hop onto the fabled cable cars, if they're not lugging luggage. But if said tourist is staying at Union Square, for instance, this is just a couple of blocks away from the nearest BART station. Given the circuitous route BART will take from the airport to downtown (west halfway across the Peninsula, then north, and then back northeast to downtown), many might pay the extra cost of the shared ride vans without stepping all the way up to a taxi. However, the next time I have a conference in Union Square, I might try it. Heck, if I'm really not in a hurry to get to my parents' house, I could take BART from the airport to the Embarcadero, the ferry from there to Larkspur, and then a bus up to my parents' house in Marinwood. But I'd have to be trying to stall pretty badly to take that particular route. >Dennis Nick
