04/15/2003 - Updated 12:53 PM ET United chops flights by 12% because of war, SARS CHICAGO (Reuters) =97 Bankrupt United Airlines said Tuesday it will cut its= =20 May schedule by nearly 12% worldwide because of booking declines related to= =20 the Iraq war and the pneumonia-like SARS illness. United, the No. 2 U.S.=20 air carrier that sought bankruptcy protection in December along with parent= =20 UAL, said it would extend its 8 percent worldwide schedule cuts from April= =20 and add about 3.7% to the reductions, resulting in an unspecified number of= =20 unpaid leaves. The air carrier said in a hotline message that it will trim= =20 105 domestic flights and 24 international flights per day from its mainline= =20 service. The cuts reduce the number of flights to several cities in Europe= =20 and Asia, but do not eliminate service, United said. Sudden Acute=20 Respiratory Syndrome, or SARS, has infected 3,300 people and killed 144 in= =20 more than 20 countries after first appearing in southern China and then=20 being carried around the globe by travelers. *************************************************** The owner of Roger's Trinbago Site/TnTisland.com Roj (Roger James) escape email mailto:ejames@xxxxxxxxx Trinbago site: www.tntisland.com Carib Brass Ctn site www.tntisland.com/caribbeanbrassconnection/ Steel Expressions www.mts.net/~ejames/se/ Site of the Week: http://www.carstt.com TnT Webdirectory: http://search.co.tt *********************************************************
