(AP) -- America West Airlines said Monday it has cut 250 jobs as part of the company's efforts to reduce annual costs by $100 million. The management, professional and administrative positions cut were primarily in the company's Tempe, Ariz., headquarters and other Phoenix locations. Five senior level positions were included as part of the cuts. Pilots, flight attendants and other positions were not affected. "The airline industry remains in an unprecedented financial crisis, forcing airlines to continue to be creative about serving customers more efficiently and with less overhead," chairman and chief executive Douglas Parker said in a statement. America West Holdings Corp., the airline's parent company, has reported losses for nine straight quarters. Last month, Parker sent a letter to employees telling them the airline w= as looking for $100 million in savings in payroll costs, operating expenses and vendor fees. Among the executives whose positions were eliminated were Lonnie Bane, senior vice president of human resources, and Jack Richards, president and chief executive of the Leisure Co., the airline's vacation package unit. America West has about 13,000 employees. The company cut about 2,000 jobs immediately after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, but most of those employees were rehired. Shares of America West Holding Corp., the airline's parent, rose 27 cents to close at $2.80 Monday on the New York Stock Exchange.
