Northwest CEO discusses industry traffic declines EAGAN, Minn. (AP) =97 Northwest Airlines has experienced significant falloff= =20 in international traffic due to the war in Iraq, Chief Executive Officer=20 Richard Anderson said. While Anderson didn't release specific figures for=20 Northwest's decline, he said domestic bookings are down 20% to 40% across=20 the airline industry, while trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific bookings are=20 off between 30% and 100%. The Air Transport Association has reported that=20 some airlines have had days recently when net booking changes were in=20 excess of 100%, meaning that cancellations exceeded bookings on those=20 days," Anderson said Monday. The ATA has projected that the war in Iraq=20 would trigger 70,000 layoffs across the industry and result in the=20 elimination of 2,200 daily flights in 2003, he said. In March, Anderson=20 said Northwest's planes systemwide were 75.5% filled, 6.4 points below a=20 year earlier, while the carrier's capacity increased by 1.6%. Anderson also= =20 told employees in a recorded message Monday that Northwest will add the=20 first Airbus A330 to its active fleet of 481 airplanes on July 7. Northwest= =20 is scheduled to take delivery of two additional A330s later in the year to= =20 replace older, less efficient DC10-30 airplanes. *************************************************** The owner of Roger's Trinbago Site/TnTisland.com Roj (Roger James) escape email mailto:ejames@xxxxxxxxx Trinbago site: www.tntisland.com Carib Brass Ctn site www.tntisland.com/caribbeanbrassconnection/ Steel Expressions www.mts.net/~ejames/se/ Site of the Week: http://www.carstt.com TnT Webdirectory: http://search.co.tt *********************************************************
