Midwest Airlines pilots agree to temporary wage cuts MILWAUKEE (AP) =97 The Midwest Airlines pilots union has agreed to temporary= =20 pay cuts that could save the struggling company about $1 million over six=20 months. Midwest officials wanted the concessions as part of their effort to= =20 cut operating expenses by $4 million a month. The union agreed to the cuts= =20 even though some members could take 40% wage reductions when their job=20 titles move from captain to first officer, said Capt. Jay Schnedorf, local= =20 union chairman. "This is a huge hit to some of our guys, who aren't nearly= =20 the highest-paid pilots in the industry," he said Wednesday. The tentative= =20 agreement would reduce captains' wages by 9% and first officers' wages by=20 5.75%. The Air Line Pilots Association's national office still must approve= =20 the agreement, which would cut wages from April 16 through Nov. 1. The=20 Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, citing an industry source, reported the wage=20 cuts would save the company about $1 million. Midwest, like much of the=20 airline industry, has struggled financially amid record-high fuel prices=20 and the slow travel industry since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.=20 The Oak Creek airline has already said it would furlough 430 workers, or=20 13% of the work force of Midwest and its commuter airline, Midwest Connect.= =20 The airline's unionized flight attendants and Midwest Connect pilots have=20 not yet agreed to wage concessions. *************************************************** The owner of Roger's Trinbago Site/TnTisland.com Roj (Roger James) escape email mailto:ejames@xxxxxxxxx Trinbago site: www.tntisland.com Carib Brass Ctn site www.tntisland.com/caribbeanbrassconnection/ Steel Expressions www.mts.net/~ejames/se/ Site of the Week:http://www.ttsailing.org/ TnT Webdirectory: http://search.co.tt *********************************************************
