London-New York plane diverted because of 'troubling' note DUBLIN, Ireland (AP) =97 A United Airlines flight from London to New York= was=20 diverted to Ireland on Thursday after a crew member found a "troubling"=20 note in a seatback pocket, an airline official said. The Boeing 777 landed= =20 safely at Shannon Airport in southwestern Ireland, where police escorted=20 passengers and crew members off the plane but did not immediately search=20 the aircraft. "Everybody aboard was taken to a secure area, and obviously= =20 they were all searched, but nothing suspicious was found," said Jim Molloy,= =20 a spokesman for Ireland's national police force. He said officers did not= =20 plan to search the plane until after 4:10 p.m. ET =97 its scheduled landing= =20 time at John F. Kennedy International Airport. "This just makes sense, in= =20 case there were to be some kind of explosive device on board," he=20 said. Both the Irish police and the company running Ireland's airports,=20 Aer Rianta, said 197 passengers and crew were on board. In New York, United= =20 spokeswoman Chris Nardella said there were 196. After takeoff from=20 London's Heathrow Airport, "one of our crew members found a note in a=20 seatback pocket that was troubling," Nardella said. She declined to=20 elaborate on what the note said but United decided to divert the flight to= =20 Shannon, a popular trans-Atlantic refueling point. The passengers will=20 remain at Shannon until the airline decides whether the plane can continue= =20 on to the United States or arranges another flight, Nardella said. *************************************************** The owner of Roger's Trinbago Site/TnTisland.com Roj (Roger James) escape email mailto:ejames@xxxxxxxxx Trinbago site: www.tntisland.com Carib Brass Ctn site www.tntisland.com/caribbeanbrassconnection/ Steel Expressions www.mts.net/~ejames/se/ Site of the Week:http://www.ttsailing.org/ TnT Webdirectory: http://search.co.tt *********************************************************
