Japan Airlines cuts Hawaii flights HONOLULU (AP) =97 Japan Airlines became the first airline to make major=20 flight reductions to Hawaii since the start of war in Iraq, announcing=20 Wednesday it would cut two daily flights through most of next month. JAL=20 has seen a passenger load drop of about 40 percent in the last week,=20 prompting the cut of the two flights =97 nearly 800 fewer seats each day.=20 "They don't feel comfortable coming to Hawaii, making a lot of noise and=20 enjoying themselves when the city is very solemn and quiet because of the=20 war," airline spokesman Gilbert Kimura said of the Japanese clientele.=20 Japan Airlines is the largest carrier between Japan and Hawaii. Flights=20 from Osaka to Honolulu, typically run twice daily, will be cut to once for= =20 April 1 to 23. On the Tokyo-Honolulu route, three daily flights will be=20 trimmed to two beginning April 1. Flights from April 25 to May 6, during=20 Japan's popular vacation period known as Golden Week, will be cut to three= =20 a day from four. "This cutback is necessary because of the slow demand=20 during the war," said Kimura. "Once the war is finished and back to normal= =20 we will again be flying on a normal schedule."
