United jet makes emergency landing in Mississippi MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) =97 A United Airlines Boeing 757 made an emergency=20 landing without incident here Wednesday after reporting a possible fire in= =20 the aircraft's wheel well. Tom Williams, Meridian Airport Authority=20 president, said Flight 275 from Orlando to San Francisco landed about 7:45= =20 a.m. with 90 passengers on board. Officials said that when instruments=20 aboard an airliner indicate a potential fire hazard, standard procedure is= =20 to land at the nearest airport, which the pilot did. An Air National Guard= =20 air crash crew came to the scene, inspected the plane and reported no=20 evidence of a fire. Passengers were placed aboard another aircraft and left= =20 Meridian at 11:30 a.m. to complete their journey, officials said. Passenger= =20 Al Campa of San Francisco, president and chief executive officer of a=20 computer software company, said there was no indication of a problem before= =20 the pilot began a descent and advised those aboard he was making an=20 emergency landing in Meridian. "I was thinking if there is a fire we may=20 not make it to Meridian.
