Inspite of "Big Daddy" Lamar Muse, the carrier that bore his name couldn't make a dent against the LUV machine at DAL. So selling the carrier to his former employer was the graceful way out of debt and long term leases. Uncle Herb moved the operations to Houston Hobby, changed the name to TranStar and started flying to both coasts. Continental didn't like the cheap competition and slashed fares out of Intercontinental and moved some jets to Hobby. This resulted in beau coup losses for LUV and Herb wisely brokered a deal with CAL: I'll shut this loser down if you stay out of Hobby and assume some of my leases for DC-9s and Mad Dog 80s I can't use. Interestingly enough, one of the benefits of flying Muse Air was it's ban on smoking! To most Texans this made as much sense as banning gun racks in the back of pickup trucks and never caught on. You could pollute the air to your hearts content on good 'ol Sow West! Only sissies and damned Yankees flew MuseAir! RT Simpson Phoenix
