US Airways' November revenue declines, loss increases

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) =97 Revenue at US Airways declined in November while=
 the=20
airline's net loss widened, according to documents filed Monday in federal=
=20
bankruptcy court. US Airways' revenue totaled $519 million for the month,=20
down 9 percent from $572 million in October, according to the company's=20
monthly operating report. Net losses amounted to $118 million, a 157=20
percent increase from $46 million in October. Operating expenses in=20
November totaled $615 million compared with $553 million in October.=20
Expenses related to the company's bankruptcy reorganization amounted to $11=
=20
million in November compared with $67 million in October. US Airways filed=
=20
for bankruptcy protection in August. As part of its restructuring efforts,=
=20
the company is reducing its operations and flight schedule at Florida's=20
Orlando International Airport, according to papers filed with the U.S.=20
Bankruptcy Court in Alexandria, Va.

US Airways will reduce the number of gates it leases at the airport to 6=20
from 15. It will also try to reduce facilities it leases to support its=20
flight services, such as ticket counter offices, baggage claim facilities,=
=20
administrative offices and club facilities.
The airline said the move will save about $18 million for the remaining=20
lives of the leases, or about $3 million a year. US Airways, based in=20
Arlington, Va., has terminated or is in the process of ending operations at=
=20
various locations, along with seeking cost savings from employees. The=20
company's proposed reorganization plan calls for the Retirement Systems of=
=20
Alabama =97 one of its top creditors =97 to inject $240 million into the=20
reorganized company in exchange for a substantial equity stake. In Friday's=
=20
court papers, US Airways asked U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Stephen Mitchell for=20
permission to end its leases at the Orlando airport and to enter a new=20
operating agreement or lease for only the premises it needs. Mitchell is=20
scheduled to consider the airline's request at a hearing Jan. 16.
