New flight links Allentown (Pa.) and Fort Lauderdale Southeast Airlines initiated nonstop jet service between the Lehigh Valley International Airport and Fort Lauderdale on Friday. The flights represent the first nonstop service to the Fort Lauderdale area from the Lehigh Valley. Airport officials expect about 10,000 people to fly Southeast to or from the Lehigh Valley International Airport during the holiday season, said George F. Doughty, executive director of the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority. The airline, which launched its service between the Lehigh Valley and Florida in August, also offers flights to the Orlando and Tampa/St. Petersburg areas. Lehigh Valley International Airport, near Allentown, serves a 12-county area with about 2.5 million people.
