Northwest, Delta to let travelers use one e-ticket for both carriers EAGAN, Minn. (AP) =97 Northwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines said Tuesday=20 that they have begun cooperating on electronic ticketing so customers of=20 either airline can use a single e-ticket for travel on both carriers.=20 Northwest already had in place e-ticketing agreements with American, United= =20 and Continental. The new agreement with Delta enables Northwest customers=20 to use a single electronic ticket when flying on any of the nation's five=20 largest airlines. Delta previously had an agreement with United and its=20 customers now will be able to use a single e-ticket for travel on Delta,=20 Northwest and United. Previously, customers were required to obtain a=20 separate e-ticket for each carrier. "E-ticketing with Delta Air Lines is another milestone in our pursuit of=20 universal availability of electronic ticketing," said Al Lenza, Northwest=20 vice president of distribution and e-commerce. The addition of Delta also=20 enables Northwest to accommodate Delta customers holding e-tickets on=20 changed itineraries. Previously, holders of Delta tickets were required to= =20 obtain a paper ticket from Delta or purchase a new ticket on Northwest, if= =20 their reservations were changed from Delta to Northwest. If their=20 reservations were changed from Northwest to Delta, they needed to obtain a= =20 paper ticket from Northwest, or purchase a new ticket on Delta. Delta said= =20 nearly 90% of its customers worldwide use electronic ticketing and the=20 Atlanta-based carrier hopes to reach 100% e-ticket usage by the end of=20 2004. Northwest said e-tickets were used by 88% of its domestic customers=20 and 79% of its customers worldwide in November.
