WASHINGTON, Oct 18 (Reuters) - Representatives of unionized mechanics
and Continental Airlines (CAL) have reached a tentative agreement in
contract talks, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters union said on
Friday.
The Teamsters, one of the largest groups of organized workers in the
United States, said the deal with Continental, the No. 5 U.S. airline,
provided for wage increases, work rules, increased retirement benefits
and job protection guarantees.
The union did not give details of the deal, which must be approved by
the mechanics and related employees group.
Continental Chairman and Chief Executive Gordon Bethune had said on an
earnings conference call on Thursday said talks were ongoing with the
Teamsters and that pilots talks were under way as well.=20
