Jet makes emergency landing in Churchill CHURCHILL, MAN. - A Boeing 777 jet from France was forced to make an=20 emergency landing in Churchill Thursday morning. The jet landed safely and= =20 no one was hurt. The plane, Air France flight 062 with 189 people on=20 board, was headed for Los Angeles from Charles de Gaulle Airport in=20 France. "The pilots declared an emergency =96 smoke in the cockpit =96 and= =20 landed safely at Churchill Airport shortly after 11 a.m.," says Transport=20 Canada spokesperson Susan McLennan. "Local fire response was on site when=20 the aircraft landed, but the situation was under control. There were no=20 injuries." Air France is reported to be sending two other planes to pick=20 up the passengers. There is no word on how long the passengers will be=20 stranded in Churchill. The Churchill airport is used for emergency=20 landings because one of its runways is large enough to handle big=20 planes. In the last 12 years, airport officials say five jets have used=20 the Churchill airport for emergency landings.
