Continental reports a less-than-expected Q3 loss

"burdensome" security costs, taxes and revenue opportunity restrictions
imposed by the federal government kept it from reporting a profit for
the third quarter, but the loss it recorded was less than Wall Street
had expected. The net loss for the quarter ending September was $37
million, or 58 cents a share, versus a profit of $3 million, or 5 cents
a share recorded in the same period a year ago. Total revenue fell 2
percent to $2.18 billion. Analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call had
been expecting a loss of 74 cents a share and revenue of $2.23 billion,
on average. The stock closed Wednesday down 44 cents at $4.80.
