Nice to read that someone isn't crying the blues, demanding givebacks and
threatening to go under (again?)

Swiss beats forecast loss in first half
      Dateline: Tuesday September 17, 2002

Swiss reported a net loss of Sfr447 million ($295 million) for the
first half of 2002, "a good third better than envisaged" in the business
plan.

Sales were up 45.1% to Sfr1.75 billion compared with Sfr1.21 billion
forecast in the business plan. Swiss cited a "continuous increase" in load
factor both in Europe and overseas, as well as intercontinental expansion of
the route network, for the better-than-expected results.
Additionally, the carrier said that by "strict expenditure monitoring,"
costs have not increased "out of due proportion" despite the rapid growth of
the company as a whole. It said it wants to improve "both operationally and
technically" and its organization and management structure must be rendered
"even more functional."
