Air Jamaica lost millions after 9/11 Trinidad Guardian Air Jamaica chairman Gordon "Butch" Stewart estimated on Wednesday that the airline lost US$70 million in revenues because of last September's terrorist attacks in the US, according to the Jamaica Observer. Air Jamaica is having to spend millions on security arrangements to meet new US standards in the aftermath of the attacks, including US$1.2 million to install bullet-proof cockpit doors, as demanded by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Stewart said the situation will force Air Jamaica to go to financial markets to raise cash to help cover the shortfall but officials could not immediately say how much the airline will have to borrow, given internal efforts to pump up revenues and cut costs.
