Really sad events of Wednesday weren't helped (from this eastern side of the pond) by the speech by the chairman of the joint chiefs at the Pentagon who opened his speech by mentioning America's first 'defence of the nation', about fighting the British in 1770. British television focused on the presence at this speech of relatives, friends, and firefighters from the UK who were marking the deaths of the second biggest nation to suffer casualties in the atrocities....the British. His insensitivity was appalling. Instead of all the talk of racial profiling, shoe inspections, etc, on Thursday there was a debate program on UK television about some of the policy decisions of successive US (and UK!) governments that have perhaps led to the feeling of desperation in the Arab world. It was lively, and featured polemicists such as Michael Moore and Ed Koch. If a plane crashes, we try to fix the problem permanently at source, but all the racial profiling in the world won't make the grievances go away, will they? Sorry to move the discussion to politics, but I'd like to come back and see you guys one day with my camera, but not have a gun stuck up my a** when I do. Hell, most of my shots are of vintage relics like ATR42s, Brasilias and Jetstream 41s. Haven't shot an American regional jet at all!! Jim Edinburgh, Scotland
