Police and airport security ordered the evacuation of 300 to 400 people from the airport's international terminal at about 4.30 p.m. (0600 GMT). A police spokesman told CNN that international flights were still landing, but passengers are not being unloaded for the time being. The police bomb squad is checking the area, using sniffer dogs. The spokesman said there was no impact on the domestic terminal, which is on the other side of the main runway from the international terminal. Sydney is Australia's main international and domestic hub, and handles about 24 million passengers a year. Just after 6 p.m. local time, the Sydney Airport Corporation said a "detailed assessment" of the international terminal was being conducted, ahead of any decision to allow passengers and staff to return to the arrivals and departures area. -- David Mueller / HNL davidm@smail.info http://www.quanterium.com
