Southwest Airlines July load factor falls Monday August 5, 8:56 AM EDT DALLAS, Aug 5 (Reuters) - Southwest Airlines Co. (LUV <http://money.excite.com/jsp/qt/full.jsp?time=0&symbol_search_text=LUV> ), the nation's top discount carrier, said Monday its July load factor, or percent of capacity in use, fell to 73.2 percent from 75.8 percent in the same month a year ago. Dallas-based Southwest also reported it flew 4.3 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in July 2002, about the same RPMs flown in July 2001. Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 4.0 percent to 5.9 billion from the July 2001 level of 5.7 billion. For the first seven months of 2002, Southwest said it flew 26.7 billion RPMs, compared with the 26.8 billion RPMs recorded for the same period of 2001. Available seat miles increased 4.3 percent to 39.6 billion from the 2001 level of 38.0 billion. The year-to-date load factor was 67.5 percent, compared to 70.5 percent for the same period last year.
