(AP) -- Alaska Airlines said Wednesday it has dropped plans to resume service fr= om Long Beach Airport in September but an affiliate hopes to offer service to Seattle starting in October. Alaska Airlines was denied a request for takeoff and landing slots at the airport, where only 41 daily flights are permitted by larger carriers because of noise restrictions. The carrier had served Long Beach until 1995. An affiliate, Horizon Air, has applied to offer three daily non-stop Long Beach-to-Seattle flights starting Oct. 6. Smaller carriers operate 25 daily flights from the airport. Horizon operates 70-passenger CRJ-700s, which produces less noise and has lower emissions. =20 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright 2002 AP
