The first such service began last Monday with a new service connecting Antigua, Nevis and Anguilla. The service will operate daily, providing connections to LIAT's southern Network of flights and long haul connecting airlines =96 British Airways, its alliance partner BWIA as well as Virgin Atlantic Transatlantic service. Last Tuesday, the island-hopping airline marked the inauguration of the non-stop Dash 8 service between Nevis and Puerto Rico. The service, which links Antigua, Nevis and San Juan, operates daily except on Monday and on Thursdays. This is not only a first by LIAT, but also the first by any through Nevis. LIAT officials said this gives credence to the airline being the "Leader in air transport" in the region. To mark the occasion of these two new services to Nevis, an official welcome and Press Conference was held at Nevis' new airport terminal attended by the Premier Vance Amory, Minister of Tourism, Malcolm Guishard, Dr. Cohn Dore of the Air and Sea Ports Authority and other officials. A delegation of LIAT officials headed by chairman Mr. Wilbur Harrigan, CEO Garry Cullen and executive directors Danny Oliver and David Stuart arrived in Nevis on the incoming aircraft, accompanied by officials of the Antigua Tourism Ministry, travel agents, Partner Airlines, Interline Carriers and members of the Antigua Media. After a short ceremony at the airport addressed by the Premier and the chairman of LIAT and attended by members of the Nevis tourism industry, the welcoming party travelled to Nisbet Plantation for a luncheon. The Antigua-Nevis-San Juan service facilitates visitors to Nevis from continental USA travelling through the San Juan hub. LIAT is working with several US carriers to ensure a smooth San Juan transfer and competitive fares. The new service also connects at Antigua with LIAT's alliance partner BWIA and the numerous other international carriers that LIAT interlines with, including British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Air Jamaica, American Airlines, US Air and Continental providing services to the UK, USA and Canada. In addition, LIAT plans to further improve the Nevis transport link by means of a code-sharing agreement with Winair to and from St. Maarten.
