An article posted to SkyOne indicated that Mesa was "on the verge" of
commerical air service last year, just prior to September 11. Any idea
who the mystery carrier was?

Doubt it seriously...but officials at Gateway Airport in suburban Mesa
have held discussions with JetBlue about using this former Air Force
field for Phoenix service. Problem is no commerical airline has
expressed interest in serving a second Phoenix airport for two
compelling reasons: 1) the industry is hurting, and 2) Gateway is too
close to Sky Harbor by air and too far from downtown by car. As far as
JetBlue's entrance to the Phoenix market..could be tough sledding here
in the desert as both AmWest and Southwest make this the most affordable
major market for airline transportation.
