Believe the airlines graciously allow one parent to go to the gate with the
child. From the Southwest Airlines page: In addition, unticketed Customers
who have a specific need (escorting/meeting children age 17 and younger;
assisting Customers with disabilities; etc.) will be allowed beyond the
security checkpoint provided they have obtained proper approval from
Southwest Airlines ticket counter personnel.
